Norsk Kulturskoleråd, Kultuskolerådet (SE) | Gender & Education
Tuesday 20th of June | 1 PM
Lars Emil Johannessen works as an adviser for The Norwegian Council for Schools of Music and Performing Arts (aka Norsk kulturskoleråd), where he is responsible for international cooperation and development. Johannessen's background is as an educator in Kulturskolen, where he also has experience from various management positions. Norsk Kulturskoleråd works to ensure cooperation, development and protect the interests of municipalities that own and operate music and art programs for children and youth.
Torgny Sandgren is the Secretary General of The Swedish Arts Schools Council (Kulturskolerådet). Sandgren has previously worked as senior advisor to the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Swedish Agency for Youth. Kulturskolerådet is a politically and trade-union independent, non-profit association offering a collaborative platform for municipalities hosting arts schools.
Both organizations share the vision that all children and youth should be offered equal opportunities for personal development through easily accessible arts-based activities of high quality.
At Boost, Johannessen and Sandberg will partake in the panel Gender, Creativity and Education, where they will present statistics from several Nordic countries and shed some light on the "reversed" image that is the case of Kulturskolen, where girls are in large majority – as opposed to in higher education and musical life in general.
